Osmania Hospital STEMI model saves 200 lives every month
Hyderabad: A ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) model was earlier introduced at Osmania General Hospital (OGH) and saved the lives of at least 200 people every month. Heart attack patients without access to emergency cardiac care are given STEMI treatment.
An ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is a type of heart attack that is more serious and has a greater risk of serious complications and death. It gets its name from how it mainly affects the heart's lower chambers and changes how electrical current travels through them.

A STEMI is a myocardial infarction that causes a distinct pattern on an electrocardiogram (abbreviated either as ECG or EKG). This is a medical test that uses several sensors (usually 10) attached to your skin that can detect your heart's electrical activity. That activity is then displayed as a wave pattern on a paper readout or a digital display. The different parts of the wave are labeled using letters, starting at P and ending at U.
Patients from remote areas of Telangana can now receive instant diagnosis and treatment at OGH hospital. To provide the treatment to the patients, the government directed around 20 government hospital nurses, physicians, and paramedical staff to first train them before launching the STEMI model in each of those hospitals.

Dr. Syed Imamuddin, the head of cardiology, told The Siasat Daily, "The moment a heart attack patient is admitted in one of these 20 facilities in the districts, the locally trained doctor takes the patient's ECG, which is transmitted to us at OGH. From then on, our specialists guide the local physician about treatment,"
"By administering immediate treatment to heart attack patients and stabilizing them, the golden hour for treating such patients has been extended up to 20 hours. Our calculations have indicated that the farthest point in Telangana from OGH is about 6.5 hours away and any patient, after being stabilized, can be brought safely to OGH for further treatment," he added.
