According to the news reports, the man was brought to the hospital on an e-rickshaw after being found wandering in distress. Doctors declared him mentally unstable; he allegedly tore mattresses and sheets inside the ward. Following this, Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) Dr. Rajesh Singh instructed hospital staff to refer him to the psychiatry department at Darshan Nagar Medical College.
However, hospital staff allegedly ignored the order. Instead of ensuring proper treatment, they moved the patient to an abandoned section of the hospital, a veranda officially marked “unfit for use”, and tied him to a bed to keep him out of sight.

There he remained for hours, his hands and feet bound, unable to eat the food placed before him. Eyewitnesses said he wept quietly as no one dared to approach or assist him. Speaking to India Today, Dr Rajesh Singh has condemned the act as “inhuman and wrong”, admitting that “no patient should ever be restrained this way” and that “the veranda is not a designated ward for treatment.” The shocking visuals and accounts from the hospital have sparked a political storm in Uttar Pradesh.

The Samajwadi Party took to social media to attack the Yogi Adityanath government, accusing it of “failing the very people it claims to serve”. Congress state president Ajay Rai echoed the sentiment, saying, “The inhumane treatment of patients in Uttar Pradesh exposes the true face of the healthcare system,” reports India Today.
District health officials have launched an inquiry into the incident and assured that strict action will be taken against those found responsible for the violation of medical and ethical protocols.
