PC PNDT Violation: 1 private health centre Shut, 2 more get notices in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: Following a series of inspections led by a team from the Bengaluru Urban District health office, notices were served to three private medical establishments after the probe revealed that they were violating the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act 1994 (PCPNDT).
All three were issued notices while one of them was also closed down and sealed.
Speaking to TOI, Bengaluru Urban District Health Officer (DHO) Dr G A Srinivas said that a private health centre in Rajagopalnagar has been shut which was run by Ayush doctors without any Karnataka Private Medical Establishment (KPME) license.

There were no doctors present in the hospital. He further added that the team had conducted the inspection in the Rajagopalnagar hospital after receiving complaints from the public that illegal abortions and sex selective abortions were taking place there. Officials also found equipments in the hospital which were used for abortion. The closed down centre has been identified as Narayana Health Care Centre at Rajagopalanagar.
The Times of India reports that another complaint was received against a scanning centre identified as Vivek Scans in Dasarahalli that they were carrying out sex determination tests, following which an inspection was carried out by the team and a notice was served to them. Dr. Srinivas said that their activities were suspicious since a large monitor was placed to show antenatal scanning pictures to pregnant women.
Officials also informed that patients were scanned at the Dasarahalli centre and they were sent to the Rajagopalnagar hospital for sex selective abortions.
The team also found that doctors from Rajasthan working in a private hospital in Yeshwantpur were receiving training in fetal medicine when neither of them affiliated to the Karnataka Medical Council nor to the Rajiv Gandhi Gandhi University of Health Sciences for running a course.
Talking about these violations, Dr. Srinivas added, "These are blatant violations. The hospital has not communicated to the department about training doctors in fetal medicine."
