Kalaburagi: In a shocking case of medical negligence, the district president of Yuva Karnataka Forum has demanded strict action against the doctors and staff at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Kodli village, Kalagi taluk, Kalaburagi district, following the tragic death of a pregnant woman due to alleged medical negligence.

As per the recent media report in The Hindu, Mr Chavan furnished the Mother and Child Protection Card of the deceased woman and said that neither the PHC staff nor the ASHAs tracked the victim’s health for the last three months during her pregnancy.

Chavan also noted that the day after the tragic incident, the PHC nurse visited the victim’s family to collect the card and attempted to alter the records in the Mother and Child Protection Card. According to Chavan, the nurse added false blood test results and routine check-up details to create the false impression that the PHC had been regularly monitoring the victim’s health.

He further stated that despite the victim repeatedly visiting the PHC with complaints of shooting pains on both sides of her abdomen, the medical staff failed to take her condition seriously. Additionaly, when she was admitted on January 9, her health check-up details from the past three months were not recorded on her card. However, after the nurse visited the woman's house on January 15, the card was updated with all the routine check-up information.

Speaking to Hindu, Mr Chavan said, “Though the victim visited the PHC continuously for three months complaining about shooting pains on either side of her abdomen, the doctors failed to respond to her.”

In the wake of this tragic incident, the Yuva Karnataka forum has called for the suspension of doctors and staff members who it said are responsible for the woman's death.
