Koraput: In a crackdown against quackery and illegal medical practices, the Rayagada district administration has sealed six unauthorised clinics and pathology laboratories in Gunupur for operating without valid licences and qualified medical staff.

The sealed centres include MM Medics Clinic, Amulya Bharat, Joseph Sabar, Ananta Das Clinic, Amma Clinic, and Radhika Doctor’s Chamber, located in areas such as Old Gunupur, Bypass Road, Old Bus Stand, and Balika High School Square.

During the inspection, officials found that these centres were being run by unqualified people who were treating patients without proper medical training or degrees. Moreover, the clinics were not registered with the government and were operating without permission.

Patients who were receiving treatment in some of these centres were immediately shifted to the Gunupur Government Hospital for proper medical care.

The action was taken after the administration received several public complaints alleging that unregistered clinics were cheating patients and offering unsafe treatments. Acting on these complaints, Gunupur Sub-Collector Dudhal Abhishek Dilip led the raids that resulted in the sealing of six clinics.

After the operation, the sealed centres were handed over to the police, and the IIC of Gunupur Adarsha Police Station was directed to initiate legal action against those responsible.

Speaking to TOI, Abhishek said, "These illegal clinics and patholabs, mostly run by unqualified quacks, have been exploiting innocent patients and conducting wrongful treatments for a long time. The administration will not tolerate such malpractice. Strict legal measures are being taken, and similar raids will continue across different parts of the sub-division."

He said, "The chief district medical and public health officer (CDM&PHO), Rayagada, has been asked to send a technical team to verify the documents and licences of all clinics and diagnostic centres operating in the area. The drive against unauthorised medical establishments will continue in the coming days, and stringent action will be taken against the defaulters."
