Lucknow: To streamline hospital procedures for VVIP and VIP individuals, the Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) in Lucknow has issued a comprehensive set of guidelines for their treatment and movement within the hospital premises.

The new protocol, formalized in a letter dated August 1 by Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Vikram Singh, seeks to ensure that such patients do not encounter any "unwanted struggle" during their time at the hospital, from registration to discharge.

According to the circular, resident doctors must alert senior officers in advance if a VIP or VVIP is expected to arrive for treatment or to visit an admitted patient. Once informed, all hospital staff—including doctors, sanitation inspectors, and security personnel—will be placed on high alert to ensure smooth coordination.

The route, lighting, signboards, and other facilities in the OPD, emergency unit, ICU, and other wards must be properly maintained. According to an official letter, the head of the department treating the patient will be personally responsible for overseeing their care.

All hospital staff have been instructed to maintain a polite and respectful demeanor toward VIP patients and their representatives. This includes ensuring a dignified atmosphere, as well as facilitating a hassle-free registration process and clear communication about medical procedures and facilities.

The administration emphasized that departments must guarantee cleanliness and transparency at every step, especially for high-profile patients.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, media spokesperson of RMLIMS, Dr Bhuwan Chandra Tiwari, stated that these guidelines are to provide assistance to VIPs/VVIPs visiting the hospital to see patients. By this, they can get exact information about the treatment and other procedures of their patients.
