RMLIMS Lucknow to Install 4D CT Simulation Machine

Lucknow- In a major development, Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS), Lucknow, is soon going to install a 4D CT simulation machine costing Rs 14.8 crore. This new technology will enhance the treatment options available to cancer patients at RMLIMS.
According to a TOI media news report, officials said this advanced technology will replace the existing CT simulation system, which is 12 years old and out of warranty, ensuring more accurate and effective radiation therapy.
In this regard, speaking to the TOI, Professor Madhup Rastogi from the Department of Radiation Oncology said, “Unlike conventional CT simulation, which provides only static images, the 4D CT simulation machine captures real-time images, taking into account the movement of the tumour due to breathing and other body functions.”
This would make this treatment particularly beneficial for cancers in the lung, abdomen and thoracic region, where tumors tend to move. By tracking these movements, doctors can deliver radiation therapy with greater precision, minimizing damage to healthy tissue and improving treatment outcomes.
On this, Professor Madhup Rastogi said, "The new technology will provide higher image resolution, better tumor localization and improved patient safety. It is likely to be installed in three months."
Further, Professor CM Singh, Director, RMLIMS, also said that “With this development, RMLIMS will strengthen its position as a leading cancer treatment centre in the region, providing patients access to state-of-the-art radiation therapy with fewer side effects and better survival rates”.
Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (Dr. RMLIMS) is a state university-affiliated medical institution located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was established in 2006 and was affiliated with King George's Medical University (KGMU) until 2018.
