Stillborn delivery sparks dispute at Banda Women's Hospital, property damaged

Banda: A dispute broke out at a government women’s hospital in Banda late Wednesday night following the delivery of a stillborn baby, allegedly resulting in damage to hospital property and injuries to a security guard.

The woman, a resident of Bhujarkh village under Tindwari police station, had been brought to the hospital for delivery. According to the hospital administration, doctors found that she was suffering from APH, and that the baby had died in the womb. The doctors reportedly advised the family to shift her to the medical college, but the family insisted on having the delivery at the hospital.

The baby was delivered dead at around 2.30 am, following which the family left the hospital premises with the newborn's body.

According to news reports, the situation reportedly turned tense when the woman's in-laws later returned to the hospital, and an argument broke out with her family members. During the altercation, some individuals allegedly damaged hospital property, including the glass window of the delivery room.

A security guard who intervened during the dispute was also allegedly assaulted and sustained injuries. Hospital authorities subsequently informed the police about the incident.

According to information provided by a police officer present at the scene, the woman's brother-in-law is a transgender man. He and a friend were allegedly creating a ruckus in the hospital while intoxicated and carrying the newborn's body. Police brought the situation under control and had the newborn's body placed in the mortuary, as reported by Bhaskar English.

The hospital administration later filed a complaint against unidentified persons. A staff member who was on duty that night submitted the complaint, following which police began investigating the incident.

The circumstances surrounding the stillbirth and the subsequent dispute are being examined separately. The newborn's body has been kept in the mortuary, and further action will be taken based on the complaint and the findings of the police investigation.
