Tezpur: Following allegations of mental harassment and physical assault by the Deputy Superintendent, employees of Tezpur Medical College in Tezpur, Assam staged a protest on Monday, demanding his immediate removal from the post.

Third- and fourth-grade employees accused the officer of repeatedly subjecting them to intimidation, verbal abuse, and physical misconduct over the past several months, creating a hostile work environment within the college. Both male and female staff members reportedly claimed to have faced the alleged harassment.

“The deputy superintendent harasses employees in the name of monitoring duty, including women staff,” alleged an employee of Tezpur Medical College, reports the Assam Tribune

The staff described the protest as a spontaneous response to what they termed "continued physical and mental harassment" and an "authoritarian work culture" allegedly enforced by the officer.

The employees have lodged a complaint with the local police and urged intervention from higher medical authorities of the state government. They demanded that the medical superintendent be removed from his position within 24 hours, warning that failure to act could lead to an indefinite agitation, including work-break protests.

The employees clarified that any future protest would not affect emergency medical services, ensuring that patient care continues uninterrupted.

Authorities at Tezpur Medical College have yet to respond officially, and further details of the case are awaited.

This is not the first controversy at the college. Past administrative actions have raised questions about recruitment and workplace practices after several candidates challenged alleged irregularities in the hiring process.
