TRIHMS sanitation supervisor arrested for allegedly filming women inside washroom
Allegedly Secretly Recording Women in Washroom
Itanagar: A sanitation supervisor at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) has been arrested for allegedly filming women inside a washroom on the hospital premises.
The incident came to light on Thursday morning after a woman noticed suspicious activity in the restroom located near the Intensive Care Cardiac Unit (ICCU) block, raising serious concerns over women's safety within healthcare facilities.
According to police, the 29-year-old accused had been working at the state-run hospital since 2021. Initially appointed as a multi-tasking staff member, he was promoted to the post of sanitary supervisor in May 2025, reports TOI.
Naharlagun Superintendent of Police Nyelam Nega said a woman using the facility noticed a mobile phone protruding through a ventilation gap, prompting her to suspect that she was being secretly recorded. She immediately alerted her family members and others nearby.

Police said the accused allegedly attempted to flee the scene and tried to delete the recordings from his mobile phone. However, he was restrained by people present at the spot before being handed over to a police team led by officials from Naharlagun Police Station.
During questioning, the accused allegedly admitted to secretly recording women inside hospital washrooms over the past three to four months, police said. Investigators subsequently examined his mobile phone and reportedly recovered multiple voyeuristic videos.
The smartphone has been seized as part of the investigation. Police have registered a case under Sections 74 (assault or use of criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 77 (sexual harassment), 78(1) (voyeurism), and 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police said the investigation is being closely supervised by Additional Superintendent of Police Rishi Longdo. The accused is expected to be produced before a local court, where investigators will seek custodial remand as the probe continues.
