Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government Doon Medical College and the Government Medical College in Haldwani and Sevadan Arogya Sanstha, to construct rest houses for family members accompanying patients.

A Memorandum of Understanding in this regard was signed between the two government medical colleges and Sevadan Arogya Sanstha at the Uttarakhand Secretariat on Wednesday.

Under the agreement, two rest houses with a 350-bed capacity each will be built at both the medical colleges.

Beds will be made available for Rs 55 in dormitories, and double-bedded rooms will be provided at a rate of Rs 300 for a night stay. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for Rs 20 and Rs 35 per person, respectively, according to an official statement, reports PTI.

Doon Medical College has set aside 1,750 square metres of land and Haldwani Medical College has designated 1,400 square metres of land for the construction of the rest houses.

Dhami asked the Sevadan Arogya Sanstha to make similar arrangements at the AIIMS Satellite Centre in Kichha.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami recently stated that the state government is aiming to establish at least one medical college in every district and expand Jan Aushadhi Centres in Uttarakhand.

He said this while speaking at the fifth convocation of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh. On this occasion, he highlighted the developments in India's healthcare sector in the last decade. He also said that we are building new medical colleges to set up a medical college in every district and expand the network of Jan Aushadhi Kendras in the state.
