Woman dies after injection, family accuses medical negligence
Kalyan: A tragic incident unfolded at Shaktidham Maternity Hospital, run by the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), when a 30-year-old woman died after being administered an injection before a scheduled abortion and family planning surgery.
According to the news reports, the woman, a local resident, had been experiencing abdominal pain for several days. After an ASHA worker's inquiry, she was taken to Shaktidham Maternity Hospital for evaluation. Doctors discovered that she was two months pregnant and also had a stone in her abdomen. Given her condition, she chose to undergo an abortion, and surgery was planned.
However, her health suddenly worsened, and she was given an injection as part of her medical treatment. Tragically, her condition continued to deteriorate, and she passed away while being transferred to a private hospital.

According to Free Press Journal, Dr. Deepa Shukla, a Medical Officer from KDMC, said, "She was admitted on April 4 for an abortion and family planning surgery. She already had three children and did not want another. Her health deteriorated, so she was given blood. The surgery was scheduled for Monday, but after an injection was administered, her condition worsened before the procedure. Doctors tried to stabilize her and referred her to another hospital, but she was declared dead before arrival at 6:30 PM."
The family of the deceased, including her husband, has raised serious allegations of negligence against the hospital. Her Husband stated that his wife did not receive timely medical attention. Speaking to the Free Press Journal, He said, "I admitted my wife for surgery, but no doctor attended to her until 3 PM. The procedure never happened—she died because of the injection. I demand action against those responsible."
The absence of an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Shaktidham Maternity Hospital has also been pointed out by the grieving family as a potential factor in the tragedy.
