Newborn dies after Pregnant woman Denied Admission Twice; 2 Nurses suspended

Bhopal: A tragic incident unfolded at the Sailana Community Health Centre in Ratlam district, where a newborn lost its life after a pregnant woman was reportedly denied admission twice despite experiencing severe labor pains. In response, health authorities in Madhya Pradesh have initiated an investigation into the matter.

The Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) is investigating the incident, and two nursing officers have been suspended. Additionally, a show-cause notice has been issued to the on-duty doctor.

The incident, which took place in the early hours of March 24, has raised serious concerns about the negligence at the local health facility. It came to light after a distressing video surfaced on social media showing the woman’s husband attempting to transport his wife on a handcart to the Sailana Community Health Centre.

According to officials, the woman’s husband rushed his wife to the Sailana Community Health Centre after she began experiencing labor pains on the evening of March 23. However, after an initial examination, hospital staff informed Gwala that the delivery was not imminent and sent the couple home. Later that evening, when the woman's pain intensified, the couple returned to the facility, but again they were turned away without admission.

Following the incident, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Sailana, Manish Jain, confirmed that an investigation into the matter had been launched. Jain mentioned that the allegations made by the victim's family are under examination. He added that statements from the Chief Medical Officer and other relevant health officials have been recorded, and a thorough inquiry will be conducted.

Preliminary findings from the investigation suggest that the family did not request an ambulance or inform the hospital about their need for one. Jain pointed out that the proximity of their home to the health centre may have influenced their decision to walk in.

According to the Indian Express, Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr. MS Sagar reported that a senior medical officer was dispatched to investigate the incident, uncovering negligence by two nursing officers who have now been suspended. He added that a show-cause notice has been issued to the duty doctor involved.
