Power outage halts surgery at Patiala Hospital, sparks controversy
Chandigarh: A power outage in the operation theatre of Rajendra Medical College and Hospital, Patiala during a surgery has sparked a controversy after a viral video surfaced, showing a doctor expressing frustration and raising concerns about patient safety.
A Video of power outage during a surgery at a Patiala government hospital in Punjab went viral on social media on Friday, giving an opportunity to the BJP to attack the AAP questioning its ''Delhi Health Model'' amid Delhi Assembly Election, whereas State Health Minister sought to downplay the incident.
In the video, a doctor was seen complaining about a power outage in the operation theatre of Rajendra Hospital during a surgery. The doctor is seen complaining that the emergency light was coming and going, and the ventilator went off. He asked who will be responsible if something goes wrong.
According to a UNI report, the BJP grabbed the opportunity and in a tweet on Punjab unit's X handle, it wrote that Doctors faced a lot of trouble due to the emergency light coming and going during the operation and the patient's life was in danger.

"Is this the "Delhi Health Model" of (Punjab Chief Minister) Bhagwant Singh Mann and (AAP National Convenor) Arvind Kejriwal? Where there are neither ventilators for patients in hospitals nor electricity in hospitals," it commented.
The party further sought to know whether on this model, AAP leaders were asking for votes in Delhi and Punjab?
It alleged that these circumstances revealed the poor management of AAP's incompetent government.

"If someone loses their life in such circumstances, who will take responsibility? The whole of Punjab is asking the question. Answer!," said the tweet.
Meanwhile, Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh said that he has seen the video. He said that when there was a power outage, all the Emergency systems, Generator and UPS system were working and power returned. The operation was completed successfully.
He said that he spoke to the Operating Surgeon and Medical Superintendent. The patient was doing alright.
Dr Singh said that there was a young and junior doctor, who panicked and made a video adding that he would like to assure people that everything was alright. There were three hot lines for the hospital, reports UNI.
He reiterated that the patient was alright and no issue should be made out of the incident.
