Yenepoya Medical College Hospital refutes false reports of patient declared dead

Mangalore: Following viral reports alleging that a patient at Yenepoya Medical College Hospital was declared dead and later woke up during cremation, the hospital has issued a detailed clarification dismissing the claims as misinformation. 

According to the false reports circulating on social media and certain media portals, a 69-year-old man was declared dead at the hospital on October 19, 2025, and his body, allegedly kept in a freezer overnight, reportedly began moving during cremation at Kumbla the next day.

The hospital clarified the facts, stating that the patient, a resident of Rama Nagara, Kanchikatte, Kumble, Kasaragod, was admitted to Yenepoya Medical College Hospital on October 14, 2025, at 5:59 am after developing sudden weakness in all four limbs and losing consciousness. Before this, he had visited Wenlock Hospital, which could not admit him due to the unavailability of a critical care bed.

Yenepoya Medical College Hospital has also clarified that the patient was alive at the time of discharge, and the relatives signed an against medical advice discharge consent form. 

The hospital strongly refuted claims that the patient was kept in a freezer, stating that the patient was transported by relatives with oxygen support. “The claim that the patient was kept in a freezer at Yenepoya Hospital is entirely false and imaginary,” the statement read.
