ICMR appoints BP Acharya as National Animal Resource Facility for BioMedical Research Advisor

Hyderabad: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has recently appointed the former Special Chief Secretary BP Acharya as the Advisor of National Animal Resource Facility for BioMedical Research (NARFBR).

NARFBR is coming up in over 100 acres at Genome Valley near Shamirpet on the outskirts of the city, reports UNI.

The National Animal Resource Facility for Biomedical Research (ICMR-NARFBR) is an Indian Biomedical Research Institute under the aegis of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Department of Health Research Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. The Institute is proposed to have State of the art animal facilities to be established at Genome Valley in Hyderabad as per National and International norms. This will be a unique facilitation Institute for Laboratory Animals resources and its research pertaining to testing and Authorization on behalf of the Government of India.

Acharya had earlier served as Director-General of DR MCR HRD Institute of Telangana, an official release said here on Sunday. The NARFBR project is being developed with an investment of Rs 300 crore and will cater to the Pharma and Biopharma/Vaccine industry in the country for Pre-Clinical Animal Trials.
B. P. Acharya is a senior officer of the 1983 batch Indian Administrative Service. Acharya served as Special Chief Secretary, Planning in Telangana State until December 2017. He was instrumental in creating Genome Valley in the outskirts of Hyderabad and many such industrial clusters. After retirement, he started helping ICMR with their NARFBR Project. 
The IPR Department of Telangana has recently tweeted on social media congratulating Acharya for his new appointment. IPR Department posted on social media stating, " ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) has appointed BP AcharyaI, Retd., Spl CS and DG MCRHRDIT as the Advisor for their important National Project National Animal Resource Facility for BioMedical Research (NARFBR) coming up on 100 Acres in Genome valley near Shamirpet."
The post further added, " This is in recognition of his efforts to create theWorld Class Life Sciences Cluster in GenomeValley and his contribution to the Sector. This project with an investment of ₹300Cr will cater to the Pharma and Biopharma/Vaccine industry in the country forPre Clinical Animal Trials."
