The complainant's daughter wanted to get admission into a medical college, following which they began a search for the same. Subsequently, they met the accused, Malani in May 2016, who promised to get her daughter admitted to a medical college.

He assured them by saying that he had arranged admission for many people like that previously. After that, the complainant, at the behest of Malani, transferred money amounting to more than Rs 44 lakhs to multiple bank accounts, reports the Punekar News.

However, after receiving the money, he did not arrange an MBBS seat for the complainant's daughter, as promised. When the businessman asked the accused to return the money, the latter refused. The complainant's daughter went through an educational loss.

The police registered a case under cheating and misappropriation of money against the accused.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported about a similar case of MBBS fraud where an FIR had been filed against three persons by the Trombay police for cheating a Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) scientist of Rs 12.66 lakh on the pretext of getting his daughter an MBBS seat at a well-known Bengaluru-based institute under management quota.
