New Delhi: With the entire functioning of the medical education sector, coming to a standstill in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the apex medical regulator MCI is now going to take a final call on the conduct of the MBBS exam of various profs.

For the same, the Board of Governors in n Supersession of Medical Council of India (MCI BOG) has recently called for a meeting of all the Vice-Chancellors of all heath universities across the country, to discuss and consider the matter today.

" It is to inform you that Board of Governor in Supersession of Medical Council of India have decided to convene a meeting with all the Vice-Chancellor of Health Universities on 16/07/2020 through video conferencing to consider the matter with regard to MBBS Examination Schedule and conduct of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Professional Examination," the notice issued by the MCI BOG in this regard stated

The council had earlier given an advisory to all medical institutions and Universities to complete the University Examinations for PG Board Specialities by 30th June 2020. The council also had announced a number of relaxations in the conduct of the exam so that the same could be facilitated.

However, the issue had run into many controversies, as across various states, students and medicos had demanded the cancellation of the exam, fearing for their safety and health. With more than twice as many students studying the MBBS course as PG Medical courses, the safety issues now become a matter of utmost concern.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that in the light of the coronavirus pandemic, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) had announced the Provisional promotion of the MBBS students to their next semesters without examinations. The notice issued by the Dean, AIIMS Patna further mentions that the concerned examinations for these medicos will be held once the situation improves.
