The bodies have approached different authorities and demanded that the due salaries and Dearness Allowance (DA) should be released immediately.
The resident doctors of Hindu Rao hospital went on an indefinite hunger strike starting from 22nd November. As many as 300 resident doctors of Hindu Rao have been participating in the strike. The doctors first staged pen-down strike and subsequently went on an indefinite strike, boycotting OPD services.
Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has recently served a letter to the governor, NCT Delhi and stated, " This strike has been called to protest unpaid salaries and dearness allowances due for the last two and five months, respectively. As a result, the hospital's OPD is currently non-functional. According to the resident doctors this was not the first time that their salaries have not been paid, the same problem was faced by the residents in the year 2019 where they even reported the issue to the President of India and threatened the administrative powers of committing mass suicide."
The association further added, " It is is clearly injustice to the resident doctors who are working tirelessly at the Hindu Rao hospital by not providing them their basic payment. In response to such skepticism displayed by the administration of North Delhi Municipal Corporation, doctors of Hindu Rao Hospital have opted for an indefinite strike. Members of the medical fraternity take oath to serve the community wholeheartedly and with full dedication."
"But just like any other person, doctors also have some personal obligations, such as caring for their ageing and sick parents, caring for their spouse and children, as well as making sure that they take care of their daily needs. Often, they do not receive the respect, security, or other basic provisions they need to some humankind without being stressed. We request that the salaries and dearness allowances of the doctors working at the Hindu Rao Hospital shal be released as soon as possible. Furthermore, we request the authorities to avoid any such salary delays for resident doctors in the future", stated the letter.
Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) has also submitted a similar letter to the governor, " Through this letter, we intend to bring to your notice issues pertaining to resident doctors of Hindu Rao Hospital under the jurisdiction of North municipal corporation who have not been paid their salaries since 2 months. It has become difficult for them to meet their daily expenditure and to support their family. They have also not been paid the areas as per 7th CPC since July 2021."
"Doctors of north MCD Hospital have regularly faced such delays in receiving salary since years and following multiple protests, last year they were assured by concerned authorities of no such delay in future; however it is extremely unfortunate that the issue still persists listen and doctors have been presurring the hospital authorities since months without any fruitful outcome which has ultimately forced them to go on infinite protest. We would hereby request you to kindly intervene and take necessary measures for addressing the above-mentioned issue on an urgent basis", added the letter.
Indian Medical Association (IMA) and IMA Junior Doctors' Network (JDN) also extended their support stating, " Health workers of North MCD have been facing these issues that have led to multiple protests over the last year, and even after rightfully asking their demands have not been met. Resident doctors are the ones who keep a hospital running and put their patients' lives before their own. They have been working selflessly and tirelessly especially during this past year of COVID-19 pandemic, and the least that they can ask for is their basic right to meet their daily expenditures and support their families. "
" IMA JDN stands in support of the protesting Resident Doctors of Hindu Rao Hospital, Delhi. We urge you to give it the required early attention and take necessary measures", stated Dr Karan Juneja, Secretary IMA JDN, National Council.
