NBE to conduct Foreign Dental Screening Test 2021 for BDS Graduates on 11th January, Check out exam scheme, test day procedure
New Delhi: The National Board of Examinations (NBE), has released the detailed conduct of the Foreign Dental Screening Test 2021 for BDS Graduates scheduled to be held next month, January 2022.
All the concerned Indian Citizen/OCI obtaining Primary Dental Qualification from outside India are advised to refer to their application to the Dental Council of India for the Foreign Dental Screening Test – 2021.
The National Board of Examinations, an autonomous organization of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India, shall be conducting Foreign Dental Screening Test (FDST) for Indian Citizens/OCI possessing primary dental qualifications awarded by dental institutions outside India on 11th January 2022 on a Computer-Based Platform at Delhi.
The Screening test for Indian Citizens/OCI possessing PG Diploma/Post Graduate Dental qualifications awarded by dental institutions outside India shall be conducted on 28th January 2022, details of which shall be notified separately.

Admit Cards shall be available to download from the NBEMS website https://nbe.edu.in from January 6th 2022.

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences was established in 1975 with the prime objective of improving the quality of the Medical Education by elevating the level and establishing standards of post graduate examinations in modern medicine on an all India basis. There are more than 149 recognized Medical Colleges in the country. In addition to Postgraduate teaching institutions under MCI, there are 450 accredited institutions imparting training in various Broad and Super specialities for the award of postgraduate qualification in Broad and super specialities.
Information for Candidates
The next session of Dental Screening Test for Indian Citizens/OCI possessing primary dental qualifications awarded by dental institutions outside India shall be held in January 2022 as per schedule detailed under Important Dates and Scheme of Examination.
A separate bulletin of Information shall be published for Foreign Dental Screening Test for MDS Post Graduate.
Candidates are advised to read the Information Bulletin carefully for scheme and pattern of examination. Queries pertaining to any issues will only be entertained if the information requested is not given in the bulletin of information. No Queries of the Guardians/ Parents will be entertained on telephone with regard to the eligibility and disclosure of the results
Candidates may kindly note that appearance in the FDST does not confer any automatic rights to secure provisional or permanent registration with the Dental Council of India or any State Dental Council.
Candidate found ineligible at any stage of FDST, will not be permitted to appear in the examination. In an unlikely event of any ineligible candidate appearing and/or passing the FDST, the results/candidature of such candidate shall be cancelled and/or is deemed to be cancelled, even if result has been declared or Pass Certificate has been issued.
Candidates' eligibility is purely provisional & is subjected to the fulfilment of eligibility criteria as prescribed by the Dental Council of India.
Instructions in the information bulletin are liable to change based on decisions taken by the NBEMS from time to time.
NBEMS reserves its absolute rights to alter the examination schedule, pattern, policy and guidelines at any time. The candidate shall have no right whatsoever for claiming/deriving any right from past or present schedule, policy and guidelines of NBEMS.
NBEMS reserves its absolute right to alter, amend, modify or apply any or some of the instructions/ guidelines contained in this information bulletin.
The existing schedule, pattern, policy and guidelines are for ready reference only but in no way, they are or ought to be treated as representative or acknowledgment of fact that NBEMS is bound to follow the same in future.
Instructions in the Information Bulletin are liable to change based on decisions taken by the Government / Dental Council / Competent Authority / Court decisions from time to time. Candidates are required to refer to the latest bulletin or corrigendum that may be issued to incorporate these changes. Notifications, regulations etc. issued by Government of India/ Dental Council of India time to time may be referred for eligibility criteria, pattern etc.
In case of any ambiguity in interpretation of any of the instructions/ terms/ rules/criteria regarding the determination of eligibility/conduct of examinations/ registration of candidates/ information contained herein, the interpretation of the NBEMS shall be final and binding in nature.
Request shall not be entertained for change in date/center of examination under any circumstances. Candidates are advised not to canvass for such representation.
Admit Cards for FDST shall be available to downloaded at NBEMS website https://nbe.edu.in from 6th January 2022.
Result of FDST shall be displayed on NBEMS websites https://nbe.edu.in and https://natboard.edu.in
FDST shall be conducted by NBEMS only at Delhi Centre engaged for the purpose. Candidates are advised to familiarise themselves with the route and location of the exam centre.
The examination test centre staff on duty is authorized to verify the identity of candidates and may take steps to verify and record the identity of candidates. Candidates are required to extend requisite cooperation.
Possession/Use of mobile phones/Electronic devices is strictly prohibited in the premises of NBEMS test Centres. Candidates shall be liable for penal action for Possession/ Use of Mobile phones/ Electronic devices.
Demo Test: A demo test shall be available for the benefit of candidates to familiarise themselves with the Computer Based Test format at website https://nbe.edu.in Candidates will be able to access the Demo test from 4th January 2022 onwards.
The candidates should communicate with NBEMS regarding matters related to FDST as per prescribed Protocols only.
All the correspondence through post should be addressed to the Executive Director, National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences, Medical Enclave, Mahatma Gandhi Marg, Ansari Nagar, New Delhi-110029. Candidates are requested to superscribe the envelope with the subject matter of the correspondence for expeditious processing.
The jurisdiction for court cases/disputes shall be at New Delhi only.
Scheme of FDST for BDS Graduates
- The exam consists of two question papers, comprising of 100 and 150 multiple choices, single correct response questions in English language only.
- The examination shall be a multiple-choice question delivered as a Computer Based Test.
- Allocation of time for the FDST shall be as follows:

- FDST for BDS Graduates is divided into two question papers of 100 and 150 questions with time allocation of 120 minutes and 180 minutes respectively. There is a scheduled break between the two papers of two hours.
- Negative Marking: There shall be no negative marking.
- Each Question carries one mark.
- There will be no grace marks. The candidate has to score 50% in each paper individually to qualify for appearing the viva‑voce examination.
- BDS-Viva Voce Examination: 50 Marks. The candidate has to separately score 50% in the viva-voce examination.
- Examiners for Viva-Voce Examination for BDS : There shall be two examiners for Viva-Voce, out of whom, one internal from examining university and one external from any other university. The qualification of examiners appointed for viva-voce for recognition of foreign UG/PG dental qualification would be at par with the qualification prescribed for examiners in the DCI Revised BDS Course Regulations, 2007 and MDS Course Regulations, 2007 and 2017, as amended from time to time.
- There are no restrictions on number of attempts that can be availed by a candidate.

Admit Card & Test Day Procedures
- Admit Card: Admit cards shall be issued on 6th January 2022.
- Candidates will be informed through SMS/Email alerts and website notice regarding availability of the admit card on NBEMS website. Admit card will not be sent to the candidates by Post/ Email.
- Candidates are required to download their admit card from the NBEMS website and affix firmly their latest passport size photograph in the space provided on the admit card. The photograph must meet following specifications:
• Size of photograph : Minimum 35x45 mm (and not larger than the box printed on admit card for pasting the photograph) with at least 75% area on the photograph should be occupied with the face & head of the candidate.
• It should be a Colour photograph with white background
• The photograph needs to display full front view of the face with a neutral expression. No Caps, Stethoscope, Goggles, Ornaments to be worn.
• The photograph should not have reflection or shadow on the face with red eyes.
• The photograph needs to be printed on a high quality paper with at least 600 dpi Resolutions.
• The photograph must not have kinks, scratches and stains.
- TEST DAY PROCEDURES: NBEMS shall be conducting the Social Distanced - Computer Based Test (SD-CBT) in safe and secure environment using touch free processes maintaining social distancing norms wherever needed. NBEMS reserves its rights to review the test day processes of conduct of CBT in wake of changing scenario of COVID-19 pandemic.
- Entry of Candidates as per Time given in the Admit Cards: Candidates are required to report at the 'Reporting Counter' of test venue at as per time indicated in their admit cards. The reporting counter will close 30 minutes prior to the test start time. This will allow time for security checks, identity verification and checking in for examination.
- Candidates reporting late or beyond the prescribed time shall not be allowed to appear in the exam under any circumstances. NBEMS shall not be responsible for any delayed arrival of the candidate in reaching the centre due to any reason.
- Test Centre Location: Exact address and location of the test centres shall be indicated in the admit card. Candidates are advised to familiarise themselves with the test centre locations at least one day prior to the examination day and ensure that they report for the exam as per scheduled time only.
- Please note that only the candidates who have been issued admit card will be allowed entry inside the examination centre premises subject to fulfilment of documentary requirements.
- Friends or relatives accompanying the candidates will not be allowed entry in the examination centre premises under any circumstances and will not be allowed to contact the candidate while the examination process is ongoing.
- Barcode/QR Code Reader at Entry Points: The candidate will flash the admit card and ID proof for verification to the exam functionary standing across the table with barcode/QR code reader. Candidate shall be informed about the assigned lab number. At no time will the exam functionary touch any document of the candidate.
- Use of Thermo Guns: All candidates will be checked at the entry point for fever with the thermo guns. In case, any candidate is observed to be having above normal temperature or displaying any symptoms of COVID-19 infection, he/she will be allowed to take the examination in a separate isolation lab.
- Identity checks will be made upon arrival at the test centre to ensure that there are no unauthorized candidates appearing for the exam.
- Candidates MUST bring to the test centre the following documents:
a. Printed copy of Barcoded/QR Coded Admit card with his/her photograph pasted on it.
b. Any one of the below mentioned Govt issued photo IDs** (must be original and valid/non-expired):
✤ PAN Card
✤ Driving License
✤ Voter ID
✤ Passport
✤ Aadhaar Card (with Photograph)
- In case, any candidate reports to the test center with e-Aadhaar Card with Aadhaar number printed on it as proof of identity, the eAadhaar Card should be a good quality colour print out with clearly visible photograph. The photograph should not have kinks, scratches and stains, and should definitely match with the candidate presenting the e-Aadhaar Card. Decision of NBEMS in this regard shall be final".
The name on the photo identification must match with the name as shown on the Admit Card. If name has changed due to marriage etc, candidate must show the relevant document to substantiate claim for change in name (Marriage Certificate/Divorcee Decree/ Legal Name Change Document/ Gazette notification for name change).
- Candidates without valid ID proof shall not be allowed to enter the examination premises.
- Unfair means case shall be registered against the candidates producing false/forged documents/ID Proofs.
Result
- Result – (Pass/Fail) for eligible candidates shall be displayed on NBEMS website.
- An applicant shall be declared as having passed only if he/she scores 50% in each paper individually to qualify for appearing in the viva-voce examination
- Viva-Voce examination consists of 50 marks. The candidate has to score 50% in the viva-voce examination i.e. 25 / 50.
- The scheme regarding delivery of authenticated copy of the result shall be indicated on the website at the time of declaration of result.
- There will be no re-evaluation or rechecking or re-totaling. Requests for-evaluation/ re-totaling shall not be entertained.
- The results for FDST 2021 are likely to be declared by 31st January 2022. Results can be seen on NBEMS websites https://nbe.edu.in and https://natboard.edu.in
