Punjab Medical Council organizes All-India State Medical Councils Conference

Amritsar: The Punjab Medical Council recently organized the All-India State Medical Councils Conference in Amritsar, to discuss on issues and problems faced by doctors. 

The conference was attended by the Heads of medical councils from across the country.

Dr Charanjit Singh Pruthi, president, Punjab Medical Council noted that all the medical councils of the country have come together for the first time to address the issues affecting doctors and find solutions for the same, reports the Tribune India. 

Some of the issues discussed during the conference include problems associated with registration with the medical council or transfer from one state to another, immediate action against doctors on NOC or fake certificates, and preventing indiscriminate and misleading advertisements by hospitals. 

The Punjab Medical Council is the state regulatory body overlooking the registration of all doctors and maintaining an up to date register of all medical practitioners. 

Last year, renowned cardiologist of northern India, Dr Charnjit Singh Pruthi was appointed as the President of the Punjab Medical Council, who took over his position at the office at the Punjab Medical Education and Research Bhawan, which was reported by the Medical Dialogues team previously. He was assigned the position for 5 years. At that time, the president told Medical Dialogues, "I would make sure that any unwanted complaints against doctors are dealt with responsibly. It has been years since the consumer forum became active but during the COVID period the relationship between doctors and patients received severe blows due to unfortunate circumstances." He had observed, "I will ensure that doctors will maintain the ethical practices as per the guidelines of the Punjab Medical Council. It is also important that administration should be strengthened so that doctors face no difficulty in license renewal."
