Lucknow: Six state medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh will soon be equipped with their pharmacies as the state government has floated tenders for setting up the pharmacies under public-private partnership (PPP) mode. 

The announcement was made by the Deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak, who issued a press statement stating that the government has invited tenders for setting up the pharmacies.

The medical colleges in Jhansi, Agra, Kanpur, Meerut, Prayagraj and Gorakhpur are set to come up with pharmacies, with the tender process to be completed in two weeks. 

Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general of the Association of International Doctors told the Hindustan Times, "In-house pharmacies provides medicines and surgical items to patients at subsidised rates." 

Further, Pathak added that the state has 35 government and 30 private medical colleges and they are taking efforts to start a medical college in every district. 

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported about the 190th Meeting of Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) at Chandigarh, where ESIC had decided to set up 100 bedded Hospitals at Belagavi (Karnataka), Shamshabad (Telangana), Baramati (Maharashtra), Kishangarh, Ajmer (Rajasthan) and Balasore (Odisha), 30 bedded ESI Hospital at Kurnool (Andhra Pradesh) and 350 bedded ESI Hospital at Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh). The announcement was made by the Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav. Yadav announced several decisions on ensuring strengthening social security for Shram Jeevis, claiming to be furthering Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision. Further, a decision had been taken to upgrade the newly approved 30-bedded ESIC Hospital at Rangpo, Sikkim to 100 bedded and to take over the ESIS Hospital, Gunadala, Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) and Maithan, Ranchi (Jharkhand) from the State Governments.
