NPPA Continues Price Cap on Orthopedic Knee Replacement Implants for Another Year Till November 15, 2026

New Delhi: The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), under the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, has extended the existing ceiling prices for orthopedic knee implants used in knee replacement surgeries for an additional year, up to the 15th of November, 2026.

The price caps, originally notified through S.O. 2668(E) dated August 16, 2017, were last extended via S.O. 4171(E) on September 15, 2025, and were valid until November 15, 2025. As per the new order (S.O. 5190(E)), the ceiling prices will now remain in force until November 15, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Earlier, the Medical Dialogues Times had reported that the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), under the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, had extended the applicability of ceiling prices for orthopedic knee implants used in knee replacement systems for a further two months, i.e., up to 15th November 2025.

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India, notified the ceiling prices of Orthopaedic Knee Implants for Knee Replacement System vide S.O. 2668(E), dated the 16th of August, 2017.

Further, the recent notice stated that the same has been extended from time to time, the last extension being vide S.O. 4171(E), dated the 15th September, 2025, which is in force up to the 15th November, 2025.

Now, in continuation, through the recent notification, the NPPA stated,

"Now, the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority hereby extends the ceiling prices as applicable to the Orthopaedic Knee Implants for the Knee Replacement System up to the 15th of November, 2025 for a further period of one year beyond the 15th of November, 2025, i.e., up to the 15th of November, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier."

However, in addition to the above, the NPPA clarified that all Notes (b) to (t) of the original 2017 notification will continue to apply throughout this extended period.
