AP: Fire at Laurus Pharma labs Parawada unit, 4 killed and 1 injured

VisakhapatnamFour workers were killed while one was seriously injured in a flash fire that was reported in the API manufacturing plant of Laurus Pharma labs Limited in Andhra Pradesh's Anakapalli.

"We regret to inform you that on the evening of 26th December 2022 flash fire occurred in one of the rooms in one manufacturing block of our API manufacturing plant (Unit 3), Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City, Parawada, Anakapally district, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The operations in the other production blocks are running normally," Laurus Labs informed in a BSE filing.

The deceased were identified as T Rajesh Babu, R Ram Krishna, B Rambabu, and M Venkata Rao, and the injured person was Y Satish, Leaders of CITU trade union told TOI.

As per a police inspector, the injured person was shifted to the nearby hospital.

"The incident happened while under maintenance works," the police said.

State Industries Minister Amarnath said that the injured worker is undergoing treatment at the hospital. The Minister has informed Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy about the incident.

Amarnath informed that the Chief Minister announced that compensation of Rs 25 lakh will be paid to the families of the deceased workers.

Amarnath directed the medical officials to provide medical aid to another worker who was seriously injured in the accident.

A probe to ascertain the cause of the accident has been ordered.
