Ethylene glycol, a substance used in antifreeze and industrial solvents, is highly poisonous and can cause acute kidney failure and death, particularly in children. The affected product, Almont-Kid Syrup (Levocetirizine and Montelukast), batch AL-24002, manufactured in January 2025 by Tridus Remedies, Bihar, was declared unsafe following laboratory testing.

The Telangana drug regulator has directed the immediate freezing of stocks across the supply chain, including retailers, wholesalers, distributors, and hospitals. The public has been urged to stop using the syrup and report possession through a toll-free helpline, while enforcement action has been initiated to prevent further circulation.
In its public notice, the DCA stated:
"In light of the above, the public is hereby strongly advised to immediately stop the use of the above syrup, if in possession, and report the same to the nearest Drugs Control Authority without delay. The public may also report possession of the said product directly to the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, through the Toll-Free Number: 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on all working days."
Additionally, all Drugs Inspectors and Assistant Directors across the state have been instructed to immediately alert all retailers, wholesalers, distributors, and hospitals to freeze any available stocks of the said product batch and ensure that the same are not dispensed or sold under any circumstances.
