Kotapally raid: Large cache of medicines bound for Maharashtra confiscated

Telangana: Huge stocks of medicines were seized from Kotapally Check Post, Chennur, while being shipped illegally to the State of Maharashtra without a valid drug licence and without any invoices.

The seizure was made during a joint enforcement activity by the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana and Kotapally Police Authorities on 21st August 2025, based on credible information.

During the raid, 26 varieties of medicines were seized from Burri Ravi Kumar, R/o Beglur, Karimnagar District, and 37 varieties of medicines were seized from Gajji Mahesh, R/o Komuram Bheem Asifabad District.

Antibiotics, analgesics, anti-ulcer drugs, antifungal drugs, cough syrups, etc., were seized during the raid. The total worth of the seized stock is Rs. 30,000/-.

Smt. T. Chandana, Drugs Inspector, Mancherial, and Sri. P. Shravan Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Peddapalli, under the supervision of Sri. M. Srinivasulu, Assistant Director, Karimnagar, and Sri. A. Rajendar, Sub-Inspector, Kotapally, carried out the raid.

Further investigation will be carried out, and action will be taken as per the law against all the offenders.
Wholesalers/Dealers supplying medicines to quacks, other unqualified persons, and unlicensed shops/individuals, who are found stocking and selling drugs without a valid drug license, shall be liable for penal action under the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. Stringent action shall be initiated against such Wholesalers/Dealers involved unauthorized and illegal supply chains. All Wholesalers/Dealers are mandatorily directed to ensure that medicines are supplied only to entities holding a valid drug license issued by the competent Licensing Authority. It is the responsibility of every Wholesaler/Dealer to verify and maintain records of the validity of drug licenses of recipient establishments before effecting supplies. Non-compliance in this regard will attract strict action as per law.
The Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, issues drug licenses for the stocking and selling of medicines in accordance with the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Stocking and selling drugs without a valid drug licence is a punishable offence under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, attracting imprisonment of up to five years.
