Lucknow FSDA Cancels 14 Drug Licences, Suspends 29 in Aminabad Fake Medicine Crackdown
Lucknow: The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) has cancelled the drug licences of 14 establishments and suspended the licences of 29 others in Aminabad's medicine market as part of a crackdown on counterfeit medicines and fraudulent billing practices.
According to an FSDA official, the 14 establishments faced licence cancellations after being found involved in cross-billing and the sale of fake medicines. Meanwhile, licences of 29 firms were suspended due to operational irregularities and deficiencies.
An investigation conducted by the FSDA in August uncovered instances in which firms allegedly maintained purchase and sales records on paper while counterfeit medicines continued to circulate in the market.
On August 12, nine FIRs were registered at Aminabad police station against the firms under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Earlier, in July, authorities seized counterfeit medicines from illegal warehouses in Alambagh, Bakshi Ka Talab and Aminabad. An FIR was also filed against eight Aminabad-based firms and a software vendor over allegations of fraudulent billing and software tampering.
Investigators also detected a cross-billing network operating in Kaiserbagh, where transactions were recorded without the actual physical movement of medicines. So far, authorities have seized illegal medicines worth approximately Rs 41.58 lakh across Lucknow. Nine FIRs have been registered against 32 individuals, and two people have been arrested.
The Times of India reports that the large-scale enforcement action in Aminabad’s medicine market has reportedly created concern among traders. An FSDA official stated that the department would continue its campaign against networks involved in counterfeit medicines and fraudulent billing activities.
