Lucknow University BPharm Student Found Dead, Investigation Launched

Lucknow: A 22-year-old B.Pharm student of Lucknow University was found hanging at his sister's residence in Lucknow's Telibagh area on Sunday after remaining unreachable for two days, with police launching an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.

The incident took place at a residence in Vrindavan Sector 6-A. According to a report published by The Times of India (TOI), the student, Shubham Yadav, was pursuing the third year of the B.Pharm course at Lucknow University. He belonged to Dhansinghpur village in Azamgarh and had moved to Lucknow, where he was staying with his sister, Aishwarya, and her husband, Vijay Yadav.

Concern arose after Shubham stopped answering calls from his family for two consecutive days. His father, Rampreeti, said that the phone remained switched on and rang each time they called, but no one responded.

Unable to establish contact with him, the family sought assistance from a relative serving in Lucknow with the 32nd Battalion of the Provincial Armed Constabulary. The relative was requested to visit the house and find out whether Shubham was safe.

Upon reaching the residence, the relative looked inside through a window and noticed Shubham hanging from the ceiling fan with a dupatta. The police control room was immediately informed, and a team was dispatched to the house.

Police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. Inspector Sunil Kumar Singh informed that Shubham was the youngest member among six siblings.

Preliminary information indicated that Shubham was alone in the house at the time. His sister and brother-in-law had travelled to their native village to take part in Janmashtami celebrations.

Investigators did not find any suicide note at the residence. Shubham’s mobile phone has been taken into custody and will be examined for possible information that may help establish the events preceding his death.

TOI reports that the reason behind the incident remains unclear. Police are awaiting the post-mortem findings, while further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
