Maharashtra FDA Cracks Down on Misleading Drug Claims, Seizes Medicines Worth Rs 73 Lakh
New Delhi: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has seized medicines worth around Rs 73 lakh during a statewide crackdown against misleading and objectionable pharmaceutical products allegedly being sold with exaggerated and unlawful claims.
The action was carried out following directions issued by the state FDA to intensify monitoring and enforcement against drugs and products making misleading therapeutic claims in violation of regulatory provisions.
Officials stated that raids and inspections were conducted across multiple districts in Maharashtra, during which authorities identified several products allegedly being marketed with claims related to treatment or cure of diseases without proper approval.
The FDA reportedly seized medicines and pharmaceutical products valued at approximately Rs 73 lakh from various locations during the enforcement drive.
Authorities stated that the crackdown focused on medicines carrying misleading advertisements, false therapeutic claims and products promoted in violation of provisions under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act and other applicable laws.
Officials also reviewed promotional materials, product labels and marketing content during the inspections to identify objectionable claims being used for commercial promotion of medicines and healthcare products.

The FDA stated that strict action would continue against manufacturers, distributors and marketers involved in circulation of misleading pharmaceutical products and advertisements.
Officials further stated that such misleading claims could misguide patients and consumers, particularly in cases involving serious diseases and chronic health conditions.
The Hindustan Times reports that the statewide enforcement drive was part of ongoing regulatory efforts aimed at ensuring safer pharmaceutical practices and preventing circulation of medicines promoted through unverified or exaggerated medical claims.
The Maharashtra FDA has been increasing surveillance and inspection activities across the state to strengthen compliance with drug safety and advertising regulations.
