New Delhi: In a major enforcement action to curb violations in the pharmaceutical trade, the Delhi Drugs Control Department carried out a large-scale raid in the Mehrauli area of South Delhi and initiated action against 26 drug firms for breaching provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and Rules.

According to a recent media report in The Tribune, the special drive was conducted to ensure strict regulatory compliance and to prevent the sale and distribution of medicines in violation of prescribed norms. According to officials, the inspection focused on both retail and wholesale drug establishments operating in the area, with the objective of safeguarding public health and strengthening oversight of the local drug supply chain.

During the operation, enforcement teams inspected a total of 37 drug establishments in Mehrauli. Irregularities and violations were detected in 26 firms, following which appropriate legal action was initiated under relevant statutory provisions. The violations pertained to non-compliance with mandatory requirements laid down under drug laws.

As part of the quality surveillance exercise, officials also lifted 265 samples of medicines from the inspected premises. These samples have been sent for laboratory testing to assess whether the drugs meet required quality and safety standards. Further action will be taken based on the outcome of the test reports.

Speaking on the crackdown, Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Singh told Tribune India that the enforcement drive reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring the availability of safe, effective, and quality medicines to the public. He added that protecting patient safety remains the top priority of the administration.

The minister further stated that the Drugs Control Department has been directed to maintain continuous vigilance and take strict action against violators. He also indicated that similar inspection drives will be conducted in other parts of the national capital to ensure uniform compliance with drug regulations.

Officials reiterated that sustained monitoring and enforcement are essential to uphold statutory standards and maintain the integrity of the medicine distribution system in Delhi.
