Gorakhpur: A pharmacist in the Shahpur area of Gorakhpur had a narrow escape after a vehicle allegedly attempted to run him over on a busy market road, an incident captured on CCTV that has triggered serious concerns over reckless driving and public safety in crowded commercial areas.

The incident took place when the pharmacist was riding a two-wheeler through a congested lane during peak business hours. CCTV footage shows another vehicle overtaking at high speed and coming dangerously close, forcing the pharmacist to swerve abruptly to avoid being crushed. The sudden manoeuvre shocked bystanders, many of whom stopped to assess the situation as the pharmacist managed to regain control and move to safety.

Eyewitnesses said the road was heavily crowded with pedestrians, shopkeepers and vehicles at the time of the incident. They blamed negligent driving and poor traffic discipline for creating a life-threatening situation, stating that such incidents have become increasingly common in market areas with narrow roads and mixed traffic movement.

Local traders and residents expressed concern over frequent near-miss accidents in the locality and demanded stricter enforcement of traffic rules, better monitoring, and improved road safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

According to a recent media report in Dainik Bhaskar, the CCTV footage of the incident has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention and prompting demands from locals for strict action against reckless drivers to ensure safety in busy market zones.

So far, no official statement has been issued by the Gorakhpur police, and it remains unclear whether a formal complaint or FIR has been registered in connection with the incident. Residents have urged authorities to examine the footage and take appropriate action to deter irresponsible driving.
