B.Pharm Graduate Allegedly Dies by Suicide After Consuming Poison

Kanpur: Highlighting the growing crisis of unemployment among pharmacy graduates, a 38-year-old B.Pharm degree holder and son of a retired CB-CID inspector allegedly died by suicide after consuming poison in the Chakeri area of the city.

The deceased, who had been struggling to secure a job despite his professional qualifications and was reportedly under prolonged stress due to unemployment and personal setbacks, was rushed to hospital but was declared dead, bringing attention once again to the mounting frustration among qualified pharmacy professionals over lack of employment opportunities.

As per the recent media report in The Times of India, the deceased has been identified as Amar Singh, a resident of Ghau Kheda. His father, Munnilal Singh, stated that Amar had completed his Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharma) degree but had remained unemployed. The family had suffered a personal loss four months ago when Amar’s mother passed away. On the day of the incident, Amar reportedly went to the terrace, consumed a poisonous substance, and later came downstairs to bid farewell to his family members. Shortly thereafter, his health deteriorated rapidly. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Munnilal Singh had served as an inspector in the CB-CID and retired from the Lucknow headquarters three years ago. He currently resides with his son Amar, daughter-in-law Neha, and 13-year-old granddaughter Kritika. His daughter Meenu is married and lives separately.

According to his father, Amar had been under significant mental stress due to prolonged unemployment despite completing his professional degree. His associates had also moved a petition in the High Court seeking employment-related relief, and the matter was scheduled for hearing soon. In the meantime, Amar had taken up work with a food delivery company. Following his mother’s demise, he reportedly became increasingly distressed and had begun consuming alcohol.

TOI reports, Inspector Ajay Prakash Mishra of Chakeri police station confirmed that no suicide note was recovered from the scene. The police have sent the body for post-mortem examination, and further legal proceedings are underway.
