Ranchi: The Jharkhand State Pharmacy Council has issued a strict ultimatum to nearly 2,500 registered pharmacists, warning that their registrations will be cancelled if they fail to complete pending renewal formalities within the stipulated time. The move comes amid growing concern over long-pending renewals, with several pharmacists reportedly failing to renew their registration for more than two years.

As per the council’s notice, pharmacists whose registrations have not been renewed for two years or longer have been served a 15-day show-cause notice. They have been directed to explain the delay and complete the renewal process within the given timeframe. Failure to comply will lead to deregistration proceedings, which would make them ineligible to legally practise pharmacy in Jharkhand.

The council has clarified that pharmacists must complete the renewal process through the official portal by updating their professional details, uploading required documents, and paying the prescribed renewal fee. Registrants have also been advised to ensure that their mobile numbers are correctly linked with the council’s records to avoid technical issues during the renewal process.

Officials stated that the directive is in line with provisions of the Pharmacy Act, 1948, which mandates periodic renewal of registration to maintain professional accountability and regulatory compliance. The council’s general body had earlier resolved to strictly enforce renewal norms as per guidelines issued by the Pharmacy Council of India.

The issue of delayed renewals has assumed significance as a large number of pharmacists continue to practise without valid renewals, raising concerns over regulatory oversight and patient safety. The council reiterated that maintaining an active and valid registration is mandatory for lawful pharmacy practice and professional recognition.

According to a recent The420.in report, the Jharkhand State Pharmacy Council has taken a firm stand to address the renewal crisis, warning that non-compliance could result in permanent removal from the state register of pharmacists.

The council has urged all affected pharmacists to act immediately, verify their documents, and complete the renewal process to avoid loss of registration and professional consequences.
