New Delhi: In a major step aimed at streamlining faculty management and preventing unauthorized retention of faculty names on institutional records, the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has decided to permit pharmacy institutions to change or update faculty details only twice during an academic year and directed institutions not to retain the name of any faculty member on the PCI portal after resignation or leaving the institution.

Issuing a circular in reference to Item No. 74 of the 443rd Executive Committee meeting held on April 10, 2026, the Council stated that it has come to its notice that both faculty members and institutions are facing issues regarding relieving, resignation, and updating of faculty details on the PCI portal.

To address the issue, PCI informed that institutions will be allowed to update or change faculty details, including that of the Head of Institution, only during two designated periods in an academic year — September and March.

The Council further clarified that the facility for relieving, joining, or changing faculty members on the PCI portal shall remain available only during these permitted periods.

At the same time, PCI strictly instructed institutions not to continue displaying the name of any faculty member on the PCI portal after his or her resignation or departure from the institution.

The circular stated:

“No institution shall continue to retain/show the name of any faculty member on the PCI portal after his/her resignation or after leaving the institution.”

PCI also directed all institutions to ensure that faculty members are properly relieved from the AEBAS portal as well, in compliance with the notification.

Further, institutions have been instructed to ensure that all faculty data uploaded on the PCI portal is correct, updated, and supported by proper appointment and relieving records. The Council warned institutions against uploading or using the name and details of any faculty member without proper appointment, consent, and supporting documentation.

According to the notification, in cases where a faculty member has resigned or left the institution, necessary action to relieve the faculty on the PCI portal must be undertaken only during the prescribed update periods.

The Council warned that any incorrect uploading of faculty data, non-relieving of faculty, or unauthorized retention or use of faculty details on the PCI portal would be viewed seriously and may invite action under the provisions of the Pharmacy Act, 1948 and the regulations framed thereunder.

PCI also made the Principal or Head of the Institution responsible for ensuring the correctness and authenticity of faculty data uploaded on the portal.

The circular concluded by directing all institutions to ensure strict compliance with the instructions.
