Pharmacy Colleges to now be Ranked, Rated by Quality Council of India

New Delhi- Pharmacy colleges in India will soon be rated and ranked by the Quality Council of India (QCI). On this, the apex regulatory body for pharmaceutical sciences, the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), has announced that it will develop a “cutting-edge” ranking and rating system with QCI.
The pharmacy council has issued notices regarding wanking and rating for pharmacy colleges offering pharmacy courses i.e. (B Pharma) and diploma (D Pharma) programmes for students.
On this, two separate notices have been issued on the ranking of undergraduate and diploma courses in pharmacy. As per the notice, PCI stated that the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) is revolutionising the ranking for pharmacy education institutes in India by shifting from a compliance-driven model to one that fosters a culture of excellence. To achieve this, PCI has partnered with the Quality Council of India (QCI)- an autonomous body set up by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry- to develop a cutting-edge ranking system that focuses on regulatory compliance and outcomes.
Hence, through the notice, PCI has informed that the process of ranking & rating for the Academic Year 2025-26 has commenced and the institution has been considered eligible for ranking. Therefore, the institution is hereby directed to-
1 Take part in the training sessions to be conducted by QCI immediately.
2 Upload the required data on the online portal as per QCI guidelines.
3 Provide access to QCI/Authorised assessors for onsite verification of parameters.
4 Adhere to the timeline provided by QCI and PCI from time to time.
5 Pay a ranking fee of INR 50,000/- plus GST to QCI through online mode.
6 The schedule for carrying out third third-party ranking of the colleges offering D. Pharmacy is as under-
i Issuance of letter to respective colleges- 1st May 2025.
ii Registration on QCl portal and fee payment: 15th- 30th May, 2025.
iii Application Submission: June 1st - July 7th 2025.
iv Training of assessors and colleges: 1st Junc-30th June, 2025.
v Desktop ranking: 1st June- 25th June, 2025.
vi Onsite ranking: 1 July 2025 onwards.
The notice further stated, “The collaboration has formulated 11 criteria and associated parameters for evaluating pharmacy educational institutes, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the overall quality of pharmacy education in India. To establish a robust and transparent ranking framework, PCI evaluated the ranking and rating ecosystem by pilot-testing draft criteria and parameters with select pharmacy institutes from different regions.
