Over 900 nurses at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar GMCH go on one-day strike
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Over 900 nurses at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar went on a one-day strike on Thursday to press for long-pending demands. The demands included filling vacant posts and promoting nurses based on seniority.
According to the PTI report, Indumati Thorat, president of the Maharashtra Government Nurses Association, told reporters that they had informed the state authorities 15 days back about the plan to go on the strike.
She said they expected a discussion with the government to resolve the issues.

“But now we have understood that the government is reluctant to take note of the nurses’ demands pending for the past 18 years,” Thorat claimed.
According to a media report in the TOI, to minimize the impact of the strike, authorities deployed nursing students to assist with patient care.
Besides filling up of vacant posts, the nurses have demanded that they be promoted on the basis of seniority, reports PTI.
Thorat claimed that around 800 nurses here were on strike.
Speaking to TOI, Thorat said fresh talks were scheduled with state govt on Feb 23. "Based on the outcome of the discussions, we will decide our future course of action. We will go on an indefinite strike if govt fails to offer us a concrete solution," she said.
GMCH authorities told TOI that the strike did not affect the health services much. "As an ad-hoc arrangement, we enlisted the services of nursing students. We hope that an amicable solution is reached during the upcoming talks between govt and nursing staff," a senior GMCH official said.
