PG Medical Courses: Govt extends of last date MCI applications by medical colleges

As per the revised MCI norms, the ICU beds will henceforth be counted in the total bed strength of the medical colleges which in turn would help in creating more post-graduate seats.

New Delhi: The government has extended the last date for receipt of post-graduate applications for next year by over a month to allow medical colleges to apply for adding more seats as per the revised norms.

In the month of March, 2019,  the Medical Council of India Board of Governors had invited the medical colleges across the country to apply for starting PG medical courses/increasing PG medical seats (Broad Speciality). The earlier deadline for the same was April 7, 2019. PTI reports that the deadline for applications has been increased by the Union Health Ministry.

The move comes after the Health Ministry approved the proposal of the Board of Governors of the Medical Council of India to extend the last date for receipt of applications for starting postgraduate medical courses for the session 2020-21 from April 7 to May 15, a health ministry official said.

As per the revised norms, the ICU beds will henceforth be counted in the total bed strength of the medical colleges which in turn would help in creating more post-graduate seats.

Also, the revised regulations provide for more number of students for each post-graduate teacher, the official said.

As per the earlier notification of the council inviting the applications, an Application form should be as per prescribed format in Opening of a New or Higher Course of Study or Training (including Post-graduate Course of Study or Training) and Increase of Admission Capacity in any Course of Study or Training (including a Postgraduate Course of Study or Training) Regulations, 2000 accompanied by:

1. Fee: Rs. 2.36 Lakhs (including GST @18%) for Government Institutions and Rs. 4.72 Lakhs (including GST @18%) for Private Institutions, which is non­refundable as per the Opening of a New or Higher Course of Study or Training (including Post-graduate Course of Study or Training) and Increase of Admission Capacity in any Course of Study or Training (including a Postgraduate Course of Study or Training) Regulations, 2000 (There is no provision to adjust the application fee submitted in previous years)


2.  Consent of Affiliation : Issued by the Affiliating University should be in prescribed format as per Opening of a New or Higher Course of Study or Training (including Post­graduate Course of Study or Training) and Increase of Admission Capacity in any Course of Study or Training (including a Postgraduate Course of Study or Training) Regulations, 2000 as notified vide Gazette Notification dated 28/01/2019.Should have the nomenclature of the subject as per Postgraduate Medical Education Regulations, 2000.


3. Bank Authorization Letter in respect of Private Colleges and Undertaking in respect of Govt. Colleges has to be submitted with the application form.


4. All other documents required to be submitted with the application form as per the Opening of a New or Higher Course of Study or Training (including Post-graduate Course of Study or Training) and Increase of Admission Capacity in any Course of Study or Training (including a Postgraduate Course of Study or Training) Regulations, 2000.


5. Incomplete application in any respect will not be entertained.
