Rajkot: In a shocking case of alleged privacy invasion and extortion in Rajkot, city cybercrime police on Sunday arrested a 31-year-old BHMS practitioner for allegedly installing a hidden spy camera inside a clinic on Sadhu Vaswani Road and using the footage to blackmail a colleague for Rs 25 lakh.
According to officials, the accused reportedly secretly installed a hidden camera inside a bulb holder at the clinic. The device would begin recording whenever the light was switched on, storing footage on a memory card. Police said the accused periodically replaced the memory card to collect recordings, a practice believed to have continued since 2023.

The complainant had permitted a woman acquaintance to operate from his second clinic on Sadhu Vasvani Road. Investigators said the accused, suspecting a relationship between them, installed a hidden camera inside a lamp holder in the examination room, reports TOI.
The complainant was allegedly blackmailed with threats of public exposure unless he paid a ransom of Rs 25 lakh. So far, investigators have confirmed that Rs 50,000 was extorted.
Speaking to India Today, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Jagdish Bangarva said the accused holds a BHMS degree and had access to the clinic, which enabled him to plant the device undetected. “The camera was concealed in a bulb holder and recorded footage onto a memory card,” he said, adding that the accused exploited opportunities to retrieve the data without raising suspicion.
Police claimed that the harassment and blackmail intensified over time, particularly since 2024, with repeated threats made to the victim. A total of 12 individuals have been named in the case, facing charges including extortion, criminal conspiracy, intimidation, and violations under the Information Technology Act.
Authorities have also initiated action against individuals involved in circulating or exploiting the footage. Efforts are underway to trace all accused persons and collect digital evidence related to the case. The accused is scheduled to be produced before a court, where police will seek his remand.
During further investigation, officers plan to seize his mobile phone and other electronic devices in the clinic. Investigators are probing how the accused doctor came in contact with other accused persons, with whom he first shared the videos, and whether the footage was circulated elsewhere. They will also examine if any extorted money was shared and whether additional data — suspected to include thousands of video clips — was stored on other devices, reports TOI.
