PGIMER to start temporary OPD’s in Sangrur district of Punjab

In the beginning, OPDs will be functional for nine specialties including, medicine, surgery, gynaecology, paediatrics, dermatology, ENT, eye, orthopaedics and dental OPD. The construction work for these nine OPDs has started two years back, with ground floor reported to be almost ready now.

As reported by HT, when asked if the Central government has approved the posts of medical and para-medical staff, the senior officer replied, “The PGI had asked the Central ministry to sanction 70-80 posts. The file is still stuck with the ministry and it will take some time to get the final approval, post which, recruitment of doctors will begin.”

He said until the file gets cleared, the doctors and staff from PGI, Chandigarh, will cater to patients at temporary OPD at Sangrur.

“Our focus is to make the OPD functional as soon as possible. We held a meeting, wherein it was decided that around 10-12 doctors from PGI, Chandigarh, will go from here and cater to patients in Sangrur,” said the officer.

He added that the guesthouse building for doctors is not yet ready and will take another six-months time. Whether doctors will have to travel daily or stay in rental accommodations at Sangrur, these details are yet to be decided.
