Punjab Cabinet approves Recruitment for 994 faculty posts at Mohali Medical College

The Council of Ministers approved phase-wise recruitment of 994 new posts of faculty, paramedical staff and other posts, for setting up of Mohali Medical College with an intake of 100 seats for MBBS course.


Gurdaspur: The Punjab Cabinet has approved the recruitment for 994 faculty posts for Mohali Medical College; in order to provide affordable healthcare and diagnostic services to the public and to offer an opportunity to MBBS aspirants to pursue a career in medical education.


The decision to this effect was taken at the recent Cabinet meeting which was chaired by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.


Medical Dialogues had earlier reported about the cabinet nod for creation of 994 posts of teaching faculty, para-medical staff and multi-task workers for the upcoming Government Medical College in Mohali.

Now, the recruitment process has been given its go-ahead. An official statement said that the Council of Ministers approved phase-wise recruitment of 994 new posts of faculty, paramedical staff and other posts, for setting up of Government Medical College, Sahibzada Ajit Singh (SAS) Nagar in Mohali, with an intake of 100 seats for MBBS course.


"The decision has been taken to provide affordable healthcare and diagnostic services to the public and to offer an opportunity for students to pursue a career in medical education. This decision will pave the way for the first session of the new college to begin in 2020-21," read the official release; reports ANI.


Earlier, a controversy had sparked in Punjab after the State Medical Education Department initiated the recruitment process where it claimed few doctors to be ineligible for faculty posts.

The department started the process of recruitment to hire 100 senior doctors and medical faculty for three government colleges in the state. The department issued the eligibility for the posts of professor, associate professor and an assistant professor wherein the candidates needed to hold at least three-years experience from recognized PG medical college.

30 doctors in Faridkot’s Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, who intended to apply for the respective posts, were considered ineligible for the post.
