Andhra Pradesh: NTR University of Health Sciences (NTR UHS) is all set to accept a fresh batch of MBBS and BDS students but the university is still awaiting the government's guidelines which are necessary to start the admission.

The university can start the counselling process for the admission of 1st-year medicos in MBBS, BDS, and other courses after the state government specifies guidelines regarding the same.

A committee of 6 members, with the university registrar Dr. K Sankar as the convener, has already submitted a detailed report with a set of guidelines for conducting the counselling to the Department of Higher Education. As per a recent media report by Deccan Chronicle, DHE is supposed to issue a GO specifying the guidelines for the counselling and on the basis of it, the first year MBBS and BDS admissions are to be conducted. NTR university authorities are getting ready to announce the state merit list based on NEET UG – 2020 in a couple of days.
The daily further reported that there are 29 Government and private medical and dental colleges in the state and the students have the task of choosing the colleges in which they would like to seek admission. The student will have to rank the colleges in order of preference. After this, students will be granted seats according to their ranks and they have to take admission to the colleges assigned to them during the counselling whether they like it or not only. If they follow this rule they will be able to take part in sliding to seek admission in another college during the next round of counselling.
Moreover, in case if a student fails to take admission in the first college which has been assigned to him or her, he or she will be barred from taking part in the sliding process. The University is very strict about the specific guidelines for the sliding method in case of first-year MBBS, BDS, and other medical students as previously the sliding process has been put to question and the Supreme Court also served notice instructing the authorities to adopt a proper sliding process with specified guidelines, reports the daily.
This came after a PIL was filed in the apex court alleging misuse of sliding rules during admission for PG courses in 2019. AP High Court has also recently directed the concerned authorities to introduce guidelines for admission into UG courses. Now as soon as the state government provides the University with specific guidelines for the counselling process, the university will start admission of medical students in MBBS, BDS, and other medical courses.
