Arunachal Pradesh issues advisory on dengue prevention as fever cases rise

Itanagar: Amid an upsurge in cases of sudden short-term fever, the Arunachal Pradesh government has issued a health advisory for early detection of dengue cases and increasing public awareness.

According to PTI, the advisory by the office of the Itanagar Capital Region district medical officer, Dr C Lowang Mallo, on Saturday urged locals to take preventive measures and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms appear.

Dengue is a vector-borne disease that causes acute febrile illness generally lasting between two and seven days. Common symptoms include headache, body ache, joint pain, rashes, and retro-orbital pain, or pain behind the eyes, the advisory said.

The health advisory has advised locals to prevent mosquito breeding by eliminating stagnant water, regularly cleaning water coolers and tanks, and keeping water storage containers covered. The health department also asked people to use mosquito repellents and mosquito nets, install window screens, and wear full-sleeved clothing. 

People experiencing dengue symptoms should avoid self-medication and consult a doctor immediately for diagnosis, the advisory said. It specifically cautioned against taking aspirin, ibuprofen, and steroids without medical advice. 

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the preparedness for the prevention and control of dengue in Delhi. The meeting focused on reviewing the evolving epidemiological situation, evaluating the readiness of healthcare institutions and civic agencies. The deliberations included a comprehensive review of the epidemiological situation, preparedness of municipal bodies, hospitals and the State Government, and an assessment of surveillance systems, clinical management protocols and vector control measures.

The Union Health Minister was briefed on the national dengue scenario and the preparedness measures undertaken across the country, with special emphasis on the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
