Assam: Three female MBBS interns injured after their speeding car hit moving truck
Golaghat: An outing with friends turned into a tragic event for three female intern doctors of Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) after they sustained injuries in a road accident on National Highway-37 at Kamargaon in Golaghat. Their high speed car allegedly crashed into the back of a moving truck.
Police refusing to reveal the identity of intern doctors reported that they might have been driving the car while being drunk as several empty bottles of liquor were found inside their car leading to the suspicions, as per The Sentinel report. However, an investigation is underway to verify the speculations.
It was reported that they were returning from a picnic at Sikarighat, near Dergaon when the incident occurred.
On 27th December at around 7.30 pm, the three doctors were travelling in a Volkswagen Taigun and were returning from a picnic. The driver was allegedly driving the car at a high speed following this the driver lost control and hit the back of a moving truck.
Due to the high impact from the accident, the front portion of the vehicle was severely damaged but the intern doctors were saved as the airbags in the car opened at the right time and they were all wearing seat belts which prevented them from sustaining serious injuries.
However, they were rescued on time after State agriculture and excise minister Atul Bora, who happened to pass the area witnessed the collision and immediately arranged for the injured doctors to be transported to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital.
The Sentinel reports that the residents also helped the police officers in rescuing the three intern doctors. It is unclear whether they are discharged or under treatment but the police are investing the exact cause of the accident.
A traffic police told TOI, "Initial investigations suggest a high-speed collision. We are thoroughly examining all aspects to determine the exact cause of the accident. The front portion of the car was completely damaged in the collision. Deployment of airbags and the fact that they were all wearing seat belts prevented a catastrophic outcome."
