AIIMS Patna resident doctors to hold candle march for deceased NEET aspirants, seek student centric reforms
Patna: The Resident Doctors at AIIMS Patna on Thursday announced a candle march to pay tribute to students who allegedly lost their lives in the aftermath of the NEET UG examination controversy, while calling for transparent, accountable, and student-centric reforms to restore confidence in the examination system.
In a statement, the association expressed condolences to the bereaved families and said the reported deaths reflected the human cost of systemic failures that have undermined students' trust in the examination process.
The RDA also voiced concern over the reported use of force against students during protests, urging the authorities to engage in meaningful dialogue and take timely measures to safeguard the interests and well-being of medical aspirants.
In its statement, the association said, "The RDA-interim expresses its deepest condolences and solemnly pays tribute to the young lives lost in the aftermath of the NEET-UG examination crisis. These deaths are not mere number's they represent an unacceptable human cost of systemic failures that have eroded the trust, dignity, and aspirations of countless students. We stand in solidarity with the bereaved families and reaffirm that no examination should become a reason for a young person to lose hope or life."
"We are deeply disturbed by the excessive use of force deployed against students who chose to voice their grievances through peaceful protest," it said.

"Such retaliation, in the absence of any meaningful effort at dialogue by the authorities, only deepens the sense of alienation and betrayal felt by young aspirants and stands in stark contrast to the democratic values of accountability and peaceful dissent. Through this candle march, we call for transparent, accountable, and student-centred reforms that restore faith in the examination system and safeguard the mental well-being of every aspirant," the statement added.
"This march is intended to remain entirely peaceful, dignified, and non collective commitment to justice, accountability, and compassion. We request for all medical & nursing fraternity to gather at avenger square, AIIMS Patna at 7 pm on 24 July 2026 as expression of solidarity through candle march. We urge the Government of India to take timely, transparent, and responsible measures to restore confidence in the examination system and ensure that no family is ever forced to endure such an irreparable loss again," the association further said.
