Patna medical college temporarily suspends MBBS student's admission over NEET 2026 impersonation

Patna: In the latest update in the NEET UG 2026 re-examination impersonation scam, the admission of an MBBS student accused of appearing as a 'solver' in the examination has been suspended by the Patna Medical College and Hospital.

While the suspension is temporary, the college administration made it clear that if the allegations against the student are found to be accurate during the investigation, the administration will permanently cancel his admission.  Along with this, the college administration has cancelled the Hostel allotment.

An order issued by the institute mentioned that the student has been suspended with immediate effect following an FIR registered at Kiul Police Station in Bihar's Lakhisarai district following directions from the concerned department.

The June 21, 2026 NEET UG examination was conducted after the May 3 examination was cancelled due to a paper leak controversy. Medical Dialogues had reported that the Bihar police busted an alleged solver gang that attempted to enter some NEET UG 2026 re-examination centres, leading to the arrest of 30 people, including MBBS students, biometric staff and other alleged accomplices.

The arrests were made in Bihar's Lakhisarai district after authorities received information that dummy candidates were appearing in the examination instead of genuine aspirants by using forged Aadhaar cards as ID cards during verification.

Among those arrested are nine alleged impersonators or "solvers." Police said these individuals were students from medical, nursing, dental and ayurvedic colleges located in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Delhi and Rajasthan.

The arrested persons also include an original NEET candidate from Nalanda and two MBBS students allegedly linked to the network. They have been reportedly identified as a fourth-year MBBS student at Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMMCH), Gaya, and a fourth-year MBBS student at Bhagwan Mahavir Institute of Medical Sciences (BMIMS), Nalanda.

Apart from the medical students, the Bihar police arrested 18 biometric staff members, including three supervisors and 15 operators from Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura and Nawada districts. One of the arrested biometric staff members is also a fourth-year MBBS student at Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH).

Regarding the student's involvement in the scam, it was found that a NEET UG candidate arranged for the accused student to enter the examination centre by posing as a biometric staff member and appear for the examination on his behalf.

PMCH Principal Prof. Dr Geeta Sinha told Live Hindustan that the college administration compared photographs published in newspapers with the admission register, mobile phone numbers, and other official records. During the inquiry, the person seen at the examination centre was identified as the accused student. The investigation also found that the student was absent from a special class held on June 22, further strengthening the suspicion against him.

Dr Sinha said, "The process of taking action against two other students is also underway. Detailed information has been sought from Kiul Police Station."

30 arrested on 72 hours' remand

The 30 accused arrested in the NEET UG 2026 re-exam fraud case have been taken on a 72-hour remand on Thursday by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) for detailed questioning.

The remand was granted by the Special EOU Court, and the interrogation will be led by EOU Deputy Inspector General Manavjit Singh Dhillon. Investigators will question the accused about the alleged cheating network, the money trail, biometric fraud, and the suspected paper leak.

EOU ADG Amit Kumar Jain told TOI, "The accused have been taken on a 72-hour remand after seeking permission of the special EOU court. The deputy inspector general (DIG) of EOU, Manavjit Singh Dhillon, will lead the interrogation.”

Police suspect biometric staff helped solver gang members appear in the examination in place of genuine candidates, while middlemen allegedly collected huge sums from students and their families.
