Contractual Healthcare Staff stage protest outside Lady Hardinge Medical College

New Delhi: A group of contractual healthcare workers staged a protest outside a Centre-run hospital here on Saturday, alleging that some of them were being "removed from service".

The protest was led by the Delhi unit of the All India Central Council of Trade Unions (AICCTU).

In a statement, the AICCTU claimed that some of the contractual staff were being "removed from service" even after they had done their job during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It said one of its leaders and some other "Covid warriors", who staged the protest outside the Lady Hardinge Medical College and Hospital, were "detained" by police.

When contacted, a senior police officer denied the allegation.

The AICCTU also took to Twitter to share a video clip of the protest.

In the clip, a number of people can be seen protesting with placards in their hands and raising slogans against the Centre.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that recently in Chandigarh a peaceful protest, demanding a safe working space for the doctors had been led by the resident doctors of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), who were united under the banner of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD).

They held the protest in the aftermath of the suicide of a gynecologist who used to work at a private hospital in Rajasthan's Dausa district, reports the Hindustan Times. She was reported to be stressed over the FIR filed against her under charges of murder based on unproven allegations of medical negligence.  

ARD president Dr. Rahul Chakravarty spoke to the media, "Workplace harassment of doctors continues unabated and this time under the cover of people who you would normally turn to for ensuring law enforcement."
