Delhi AIIMS recalled disposable syringe batches over quality complaints: Centre

The Minister said the recall was carried out as a precautionary measure to ensure patient safety. The affected syringe batches had been manufactured by Noble Pharmacare Ltd. and Veekay Surgicals. The information was provided in a written reply to questions raised by MP Haris Beeran in the Parliament.

The MP sought to know whether the Government has taken note of reports regarding the recall of certain batches of disposable syringes at AIIMS, New Delhi, during 2026 and, if so, the details thereof including the manufacturers concerned and reasons for recall.

He further asked whether any adverse effects on patients have been reported on account of the said syringes; the action taken against the concerned manufacturers/suppliers; and whether any review of procurement and quality-inspection protocols for disposable medical devices at AIIMS has been undertaken?

Responding to the queries, Jadhav said no adverse effect on patients has been reported on account of the affected batches, show-cause notices have been issued to the said firms, and the entire quantity of the default batches has been replaced with fresh batches. 

The Minister further added, “AIIMS, New Delhi follows stringent procurement and quality inspection protocols, which include random sampling & inspection at the time of procurement and supply. An inspection committee compares the supplies received with the samples submitted during the bidding process, and any batch not conforming to the approved specifications is rejected. In addition, a specialized unit called the Patient Safety and Quality cell has been established for root cause analysis of such incidents and to suggest necessary interventions.”
