Delhi's RML expansion to increase MBBS seats from 100 to 250

New Delhi- To facilitate more students to pursue medical education, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital is going to have 250 MBBS seats for students soon.

The construction of a Medical College building of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital has also been approved, which will increase the number of undergraduate MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) seats from 100 to 250, The Minister of State for Health, Pratap Rao Jadhav recently, informed the Lok Sabha about a series of expansion plans for Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, a major central government healthcare facility.

Besides this, the hospital is also being expanded to provide better health services to the patients. Under this, 666 new beds have been added to the hospital, which has increased the total number of beds from 1532 to 2198.

Meanwhile, the construction of the superspeciality block at RML Hospital has also been completed. This new addition is expected to greatly enhance the hospital's capacity, enabling it to offer a broader range of specialized medical services. With this, operations are expected to start from this block by June, this year. The superspeciality block has a total of 550 beds, which will include state-of-the-art medical technology and specialist departments, which will provide advanced and accessible treatment of complex diseases.

Apart from this, the superspeciality block will also have a number of specialist departments like cardiology, neurology, nephrology, gastroenterology, endocrinology and oncology. These will have modern facilities for the many treatment such as heart, brain, kidney, digestive system, hormonal diseases and cancer.

Moreover, the latest medical equipment like artificial intelligence-equipped endoscopy machines, multi-slice CT scanners, MRI machines and operation theatres equipped with laser technology will also be available in this block. Also, modular ICU and HDU beds are also being arranged in this block.

Apart from this, the superspeciality block will also available with certain facilities like robotic surgery unit which will make surgeries more precise and safe, a 43-bed private ward, radiotherapy facility for cancer patients, transplant unit where complex surgeries like kidney transplant can be performed and modern labs and diagnostic centre which will enable accurate diagnosis of diseases.
