Delhi: Dr. Sabyasachi Saha has resigned from the post of Secretary, Dental Council of India. Shri Vikas Chawda, Accounts Officer-cum-Administration Incharge, has been given the additional charge of the Secretary, Dental Council of India.

This was an interim measure after Dr. Sabyasachi Saha, Secretary, Dental Council of India, resigned last month. Dr. Saha was relieved of his duties on 31st August. The Dental Council of India issued an order on the 1st of September and stated, " Since the process of appointing regular Secretary will take time, it would be appropriate to make interim arrangements for smooth functioning of the office of Dental Council of India and in furtherance of the objects for which the council is established."

"The matter has been examined, and the Executive Committee of the Dental Council of India has decided that Shri Vikas Chawda, Accounts Officer-cum-Administration Incharge, be given the additional charge to the post of Secretary, Dental Council of India as Secretary Incharge with immediate effect till further orders as an interim arrangement", the order further added.

Dr. Saha served as the Vice-Principal, Professor, and Head, Department of Public Health Dentistry, Sardar Patel Postgraduate Institute of Medical and Dental Sciences. He was also appointed as the General Secretary of IAPHD. He was appointed Secretary of the Dental Council of India (DCI) on 11.06.2016. However, DCI issued a letter stating that an inquiry was conducted into the issue of the applicant's appointment. The same reveals that severe lapses and irregularities have occurred in the appointment, and non-transparency was also pointed out. On 27.07.2021 High Court of Delhi passed an order, and Dr. Saha resumed the charge to the post of Secretary, Dental Council of India.
