Dr Sabysachi Saha resumes charge of DCI Secretary
New Delhi: Through a recent notice, the Dental Council of India (DCI) has announced that Professor Dr Sabysachi Saha has resumed the charge to the post of Secretary, Dental Council of India with immediate effect.
Dr Saha served as the Vice-Principal, Professor and Head, Department of Public Health Dentistry, Sardar Patel Postgraduate Institute of Medical and Dental Sciences. He was also appointed as the General Secretary, IAPHD. He was appointed as Secretary of the Dental Council of India (DCI) on 11.06.2016.
However, DCI issued a letter stating that an inquiry was conducted into the issue pertaining to the appointment of the applicant and the same reveals that serious lapses and irregularities have taken place in the appointment and non-transparency was also pointed out. It was also suggested that the matter needed to be examined by the governing body and till such a decision is taken, the applicant may be disallowed to exercise his powers as Secretary to the DCI.
DCI issued an office order dated 29.11.2020 stating that the applicant is disallowed to exercise his powers as Secretary. However, the doctor approached Delhi High Court challenging the order and the court clarified that DCI should take a final decision strictly in accordance with the law regarding the issue.
Subsequently, the council has allowed the doctor to resume his charge from 27th July.
"In compliance of the Order dated 27.07.2021 passed by the Hon'ble High Court of Delhi in W.P.(C) No.2764 of 2021, it is hereby notified for the general information that Prof. (Dr.) Sabysachi Saha has resumed the charge to the post of Secretary, Dental Council of India with immediate effect," DCI notice stated.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that similarly, the Dental Council of India (DCI) notified that Prof. (Dr.) Dibyendu Mazumdar had resumed the charge of the President, Dental Council of India. Shaji K. Joseph, president of the Kerala Dental Council and a member of the DCI had written to the MoHFW informing about Mazumdar continuing to act as the President and Member of DCI even after crossing the retirement age of 65 years. The ministry examined the matter and wrote to the council directing it to cease the membership of Mazumdar after which Mazumdar also moved court.
